Since Klynn was the oldest sibling in a home with an absentee parent, she became responsible for her brothers. Even though she had no money to pay for essentials, she knew they had to eat, so young Klynn would walk through the dangerous neighborhood in order to go to 7-Eleven and steal what they needed to survive. It is truly heartbreaking to think about the troubled life that Klynn and her brothers had. She became her brothers’ mother, and her love for them made her do whatever had to be done to take care of their well-being, even if her own health declined.

Because of how Klynn was forced to live the way she was living, the police soon noticed her. They found out everything that they could about the poor family, and one police officer found himself especially concerned. It was the officer who drove by her house every day and became a light in a dark world. His daily exchange with Klynn became expected and very much anticipated. He was making a big difference in the young girl’s life and he had no idea that he would also be saving it.
