Farrokh got his nickname ‘Freddie’ in school, and it ended up becoming his name. When he returned to Zanzibar he had a new passion as well as a new name. His stay on the island was not long as his family relocated to England shortly after in order to escape a violent riot in 1964, also known as the Zanzibar Revolution. Once they were settled in, Freddie’s parents pressured him to go to college and get an education. He enrolled in art school and graduated by 1969, receiving a degree in graphic art and design. He took a job at Heathrow Airport for a little while, but he eventually met the three guys who had similar music ambitions as he himself did.
