While Queen may be best known for their smash hit “Bohemian Rhapsody”, everyone knows their music as well as the quirky lead singer. The question is, do you know how it all began? The transformation from Farrokh to Freddie was absolutely epic.
Farrokh Bulsara
Without a doubt, Queen is one of the most iconic bands in the history of music with their ability to blend pop rock with hard rock perfectly. In their time they absolutely thrived and to this day have a massive influence in the music industry. The most memorable part of the band is, of course, the famous lead singer Freddie Mercury. He was eccentric, to say the least, and right from the start, he knew he would turn out to be a legend. He was born as Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar on September 5, 1946. His parents worked as a registrar for the British government on the colonized island. But for the singer, his life was destined to take an interesting turn.
A Zanzibar Native
We might know a great deal about the singer Freddie Mercury, but we don’t know much about the boy who became the legend. Before he became the leotard wearing, explosive performer, Freddie went to a boarding school in Bombay (now Mumbai) and played the piano fantastically. This talent became a passion of his over time. His mother even commented on his musical abilities and his love of music, saying, “Right from the start, Freddie was musical. He had it on his mind all the time.” He joined his first band named the Hectics in his youth. However, Freddie didn’t stay in Zanzibar for very long.
