Don’t you think that it is incredible how 10-year-old Sonia Hafeez Yousaf won the award as well? She managed to help save her injured mother. They had been at home when a former business associate of her mom’s entered the house. After the grownups talked, he assaulted her mother! She left the house to ask the neighbor for help, which gave the police enough time to get there and catch the assailant. They brought her mother to the hospital as well, and she eventually fully recovered from her injury.

Shirley Thiessen also got the award. It is interesting to hear that she worked on the death notification course of the Calgary Police Service. She helped them with the task of delivering bad news. She decided to do this after having a terrible experience in 2012. When the local police informed her that her son had died in a workplace accident, they did this in a way that made the situation even more traumatic. She decided to work hard to avoid mistakes like this one from happening again!
