First Arrest
The first arrest happened on June 5, 2005. Former security guards Abraham Jones and Nick John were apprehended by the police on this day. The two worked at the Allegro Hotel. They were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and murder. However, they had to be released a week after this as no evidence was found against them.

Charges Dropped
The police apprehended Joran van der Sloot and the Kalpoes on June 9, 2005. The three men were arrested under the suspicion of murder and kidnapping. Upon hearing this, Natalee’s parents were filled with hope. The police also acquired a search warrant for the van der Sloot residence. Sadly, they found nothing. It was yet another dead end for the authorities.
