The Kalpoe family’s residence was subjected to a so-called inspection on May 12, 2007. They detained the brothers for around an hour since they objected to the presence of the authorities in their homes. They were immediately released after the inspection. Kock said the brothers refused to let the authorities proceed with the search since they did not provide an order to justify their entry. No one knew what the officials had been looking for, though it must be said that nothing had been taken.

The Kalpoe brothers and van der Sloot were rearrested on November 21, 2007. The reason they were arrested? An internet chat log between the three men showed Joran saying Natalee was dead on the day she vanished. However, this was not enough evidence to charge them.
