How It All Began
We have focused a great deal on all the behind the scenes secrets of the filming of movie, but we haven’t talked so much about how the concept for the movie actually originated. So where it all began was actually in New York. Mel had just finished filming The Producers and The Twelve Chairs, which had been epic hits, but hadn’t actually made him much money. Then one day Mel was walking through the streets of New York and he heard a voice appear out of no-where saying, Mel. He turned around and that person was a talent agent, David Begelman.
A Proposal
When Mel Brooks ran into David Begelman, he knew that he was the founder of talent agency Creative Management Associates. David and Mel actually went back a long way. They soon started talking and David offered to take Mel out to lunch. Over lunch he explained how they had an idea for a new movie concept. The name of the project was called “Ted X” and he had a feeling that this would be simply perfect for Mel, which gave Mel a great deal to think about.
