One Job After Another
While the production and filming for Blazing Saddles were already underway, Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder were also brainstorming about their next project. After some issues with casting, Mel had decided to give the role of Waco Kid to Gene Wilder. So while they were already working together, Gene consulted with Mel to help him bring his own comedy to life. This was a spoof remake of the story of Frankenstein, dubbed Young Frankenstein. Mel quickly fell in love with the concept and as they say, the rest is history.
Help From The Experts
Mel Brooks had already been working in the industry for a long time and made connections with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. One of these famous ties was the legendary movie editor, John C. Howard. Mel and John had previously worked together on nearly all of Brooks’ movies, so it seemed natural that Brooks’ asked him for some expert advice and help for this production. So Howard naturally obliged and collaborated with Brooks on editing the movie, and the best shots to keep in the production! And we’re glad he did!
