The Musical Score Half-Truth
Sometimes, a white lie is needed to have what you want. Frankie Laine was a songwriter and singer for a really long time – 75 years – and he composed the musical score of Blazing Saddles. When Laine began composing, he believed it was a dramatic Western movie that he was writing a score for, not a parody. Brooks chose not to tell Laine that his film was a comedy since Brooks worried Laine might change the song once he found out the movie was funny.
The Unlikely Premiere
Movie premieres are usually glamorous, saturated with the priciest tailored suits. Many A-listers come out of their fancy rides, but for this film, the guests came on horseback in order to match the movie’s theme.
