Catching NCAA’s Attention
Regional collegiate recruiters started taking notice of Becca due to her stellar senior season playing multiple sports. She had serious dedication, she was focused and accurate. She was well on track to expanding her kicking career. While Becca might not be the next Lou Groza Award winner which was given annually to the best Division I placekicker, she was on track to kick another year. All she needed was for a few things to fall into place. Becca and her father were working on compiling a video of highlights from her two years of high school kicking when Josh Blankenship, Adams State offensive coordinator heard about an impressive kicker outside of Pheonix. It so happened to be the area he recruited in.
All Eyes On Her
Adams State University was in need of a kicker, female or male, so Blankenship headed to Basha to see Becca kick in person. While it may seem easy, finding a consistent kicker is rather challenging. When a school can ensure a skilled recruit who enjoys their job, that would mean they get four years of consistency which can lead to extra points and field goals. Blankenship was impressed with Becca and invited her to try out at Adams State, a permissible move at the Division II level. For the second time, Becca would be trying out in front of a crowd, all eyes on her and her right leg, watching her poise and technique. Once again, she would need to impress the coaches to make her way onto the team.
