During a freezing cold February afternoon, Becca, a snapper, a holder, and some coaches walked onto the Adams State field to see her try out. This was her one and only shot to impress the coaching staff and be the first female to receive an NCAA scholarship to play football. This was the point that would make or break her career. The pressure was on and the stakes were high, but Becca knew exactly what she was doing. She’s done this before. All she needed to do was master her technique and temperament.

In the numbing temperatures and gusting winds, Becca was unfazed, nailing 23 of 25 field goal attempts during her tryout. Nothing could break her focus or alter her game. She obviously impressed the team coaches. Timm Rosenbach, the Head Coach who was a former NFL quarterback himself, told ESPN “I don’t care if the player’s a Martian…the gender part wasn’t really a factor to me”. At long last, Becca had proven she belonged on the football field. In college football, things were different. The only thing that mattered was winning. Backgrounds, looks, and gender made no difference so long as they were good players.
