A Football Mentor
Once the camp was done, several former players approached Becca and her dad to offer to train her themselves. Although she still had a ways to go, she had major potential, and they wanted to help get her to the top of her game. However, the Longos wanted to work with Alex Zendejas, who was a former University of Arizona kicker. He also ran a prestigious kicking academy in Pheonix, having coached seven Arizona All-State kickers. Zendejas was in fact intrigued by Longo, even though he was hesitant. Becca was athletic, tall, precise, and most importantly, she had the motivation and drive to succeed at one of the most challenging football positions. He saw the opportunity to train her as an exciting and historic chance.
The Terms
Before Zendejas agreed to work with Becca, he first needed to see for himself is she had the talent and drive to succeed. He wanted to make sure his dedication and time would be well spent on her. So, he arranged a tryout for her. It ended up being a quick tryout on the football field after school. Zendejas immediately saw that Longo’s form was good, and her poise was better. Even though her technique still had to be improved, it was not at all bad. Considering she hadn’t ever played football, all of these things were very promising. If she stuck with the training and put in the work, she could become a star kicker.
