Accidents Happen
Sometimes, luck just is not on your side. Such was the case for New Zealand runner Nikki Hamblin in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She tripped and fell during the 5,000 meter race, accidently knocking down American Abbey D’Agostino in the process. This ruined both of their chances at placing. While you’d think D’Agostino would be upset, this was not the case.

The athletes’’ reactions after the accident captured worldwide attention. Hamblin and D’Agostion helped the other to their feet and managed to finish the race. Sadly, D’Agostino tore her anterior cruciate knee ligament, and though she was given a spinal in the final, she ultimately could not compete due to her injury and had to be wheeled off. But this heartwarming display of good sportsmanship touched hearts all over the world!
