Record Breaker Natalie Coughlin

Natalie Coughlin has quite the track record. Or should we say swim record? In the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Coughlin became the first woman from the United States to win six medals in one single Olympic Games. This, in addition to being the first woman to earn two gold medals for the 100 meter backstroke back to back. And in 2012, she earned bronze in the London Olympic Games. This brings her to a whopping total of 12 Olympic medals. Talk about impressive.

Lip-Sync Moment

Not all Olympic moments are success stories. What was supposed to be an adorable rendition of the Chinese national anthem at the 2008 Beijing Olympics turned into a bit of a scandal. It was discovered that Lin Miaoke, the nine-year old singer, was actually lip-synching. Because her voice was not nice enough, they used a different audio track and just had her mouth the words. The real singer, Yang Peivi, a seven year old, was deemed not cute enough for the spotlight. Organizers tried to explain away the switch, but the world was not too happy with their antics.
