Nastia Liukin
Nastia Luikin, a Russian American gymnast, made waves (and world history) at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing. Besides being the individual all-around champ, she also has nine World Championships under her belt. She is actually tied with gymnast Shannon Miller for third most World Championship medals (among American gymnasts that is). But this was just the start of her atmospheric career.

Retirement
While it was widely predicted that she would make it to her second Olympic team for the 2012 Games in London, sadly, that was not the case. She did not make the cut and so retired in 2012. However, like many former Olympians before her, she competed on Dancing with the Stars! For the show’s 20th season she was paired with Derek Hough, and the two made it all the way to the semi-finals. Smashing!
