Getting Hired
One he was hired, Joe had said, “I feel a lot younger being at work again. I want to be out meeting people. My life can be rather lonely. You come in with shopping and you have no one to talk to. You’re not in touch with people at all.” He added, “Plus, I would like to pay my own rent rather than rely on the council.” During his time in the military, Joe served as a signalman for the Royal Signals of the 6th Airborne Division. From 1946 to 1948, he also worked as a wireless operator.
Working Man
Joe had decided to leave the army in 1948 but later returned in 1958 to serve under Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers. His military service officially ended in 1966. Now, he’s been on the hunt for a job. “I don’t care if it is menial work – I am a working man and I just need a job,” he added.
