They Stole Land
It was not only the African slaves who fell on hard times. Thanks to the huge demand for indigo, the plantations began to run out to meet it. The landowners decided that they had to do something about it. In the end, they took more land from indigenous tribes living nearby.
The Terrible Conditions
There was a growing number of slaves there, and they found themselves working on growing land territories. It made the slaves endure horrific conditions. For one thing, they were transported to the United States via ships that were rife with both disease and systemic abuse. Aside from that, the Black History Month website said that a fifth of the slaves during that time did not even make it off the boat.
