A Risky Occupation
Nadya earned her psychiatric therapy license from Mt. San Antonio College in the same year that she married Marcos Gutierrez. After the momentous occasion, she began working at Metropolitan State Hospital, a psychiatric facility located in Norwalk, California. She found her job to be rewarding, but it was also pretty difficult. Moreover, it also came with certain risks for Nadya. Although she made family her main goal in life, she also wanted a meaningful career to have a solid place in her life. Unfortunately, there was a tragic event in the workplace that changed the direction of her life.
Tragedy Strikes
Nadya Suleman underwent a terrifying event while working at the psychiatric facility on September 18, 1999. Even worse is the fact that she was at the dead center of the ordeal. Twenty patients at the facility partook in a riot so Nadya intervened right away. During the middle of the commotion, a female patient took a wooden desk and threw it into the air. Tragically, it landed right on Nadya’s back! She suffered a herniated disc injury from the ordeal and received workers’ compensation that amounted to $170,000. This amount helped her make ends meet for some time. However, her attention was diverted by something else in no time.
