He Came Back
There was sweat trickling down his face, and he nervously tapped his foot. Johal looked at his watch. 20 minutes had passed, and he was beginning to lose hope. Then, he heard a familiar voice again, “How are you feeling?” It was the homeless guy, and he was dashing over to Johal. Standing up to greet him, the young man’s eyes immediately went to Noah’s hands. As they sat on the bench, Johal asked, “What happened to your bags?” The homeless guy just shrugged and said, “I just took it back to where I got it.”
Empty Hands
“Did you get something from Target?” asked Johal, who was curious after noticing the older man’s empty hands. Noah responded, “Yeah.” However, he changed the topic quickly as if it didn’t matter to him anymore. He handed the distressed father a crumbled $100. “Here, you take care of your daughter,” Noah told Johal. The young man’s face washed blank when he realized what the homeless man just did. Johal stuttered, “You returned your pillows and sleeping bag just to give my daughter the medicine?”
