It’s no secret Thanos was created mostly with CGI – we’ve seen how the animators built his expressions based on Josh Brolin’s face earlier. However, there were scenes where they mounted a cardboard cutout of Thanos on Brolin’s back. This may seem weird, but it was to make sure the other actors knew where to look when talking to Brolin’s character. It must have been such a challenge to keep a straight face for all the actors!
