In the film’s closing scene that has become iconic, the Waco Kid and Sheriff Bart are pursued through the Warner Brothers’ back lot where the movie was filmed. They escape through the gates and break the suspension of disbelief. All but one turn right – a random pedestrian who unintentionally ended up on set and did not understand that he was asked to leave. Brooks just had the guy sign off on his appearance and allowed him to stay.
‘Blazing Saddles’ On Broadway?
After the success and popularity of The Producers’ Broadway production, Brooks was asked about adapting Blazing Saddles for the stage on The Great White Way. Despite the fact that he has an idea how to go about it, he worries that the risqué material will not be successful or popular anymore. Brooks said, “It’s pretty dangerous stuff, using the N-word. I wouldn’t shy away from it, but I don’t know if I could get away with it. I got away with it then. I don’t know if I could get away with it today.”
