Gene Wilder Used Comedy To Save His Mother
At the young and impressionable age of 8 years old, Gene Wilder’s mother suffered from a terrible heart attack. When she was eventually discharged from the hospital, the doctor in charge grabbed a hold of Gene Wilder’s arm. In a scene that remained in his memory forever, the doctor told Wilder, “Don’t ever argue with your mother – you might kill her…Try to make her laugh.” It stuck with him forever, and that’s what inspired him to pursue comedy.
Slim Pickens Slept Under The Stars
Despite the fact that it is a comedy movie which involved cowboys’ flatulence, some Blazing Saddles actors took their roles pretty seriously. Slim Pickens was one of them and he wanted to become his character Taggart, the gang head and bully who worked relentlessly to terrorize the citizens of Rock Ridge from their town. The actor decided to get into his character’s mindset and did a bunch of things, such as sleeping outside like a true cowboy and keeping his Winchester rifle right next to him to remind himself always that he was an outlaw.
