Black Bart Vader
Now we’ve all seen the movie, which featured Cleavon Little as Sherriff Black Bart, it’s almost impossible to imagine anyone else being cast for that part. Well Brooks originally wanted the iconic actor James Earl Jones to star as the Sherriff. James is probably better known as the voice behind the formidable Star Wars villain, Darth Vader. The movie would have turned out very differently if Brooks had cast his other choice for the role, so we’re glad he chose Cleavon in the end!
When Brooks Quit Temporarily
We told you that Brooks had considered other choices for the part of the Sheriff Black Bart. However there was also more to this story. While Mel had considered James Early Jones for the part, he also considered Richard Pryor for the role. However when Richard Pryor rejected the proposal, Mel was stumped as we was sure Pryor would have been the right choice. He even quit the movie for a little while. However, we’re glad that he soon got over that and eventually agreed to cast Cleavon Little for the role, as everything worked out for the best in the end!
