A Treat For Life
Product placement in movies can definitely go far. At the end of Blazing Saddles, Hedley Lamarr stops to buy some snacks at the cinema. In the middle of all the chaos, he stops to buy Raisinets and Brooks revealed that this scene led to an upturn in sales of the said product. In a 1975 interview with Playboy magazine, Brooks said, “We mentioned Raisinets in Blazing Saddles, and now the company sends me a gross of them every month. A gross of Raisinets!”
A Shouting Match
Writing the screenplay for Blazing Saddles wasn’t exactly simple seeing as there were many people fighting for their ideas to be implemented. Brooks had this to say, “Blazing Saddles was more or less written in the middle of a drunken fistfight. There were five of us all yelling loudly for our ideas to be put into the movie. Not only was I the loudest, but luckily I also had the right as director to decide what was in or out.”
