Rumspringa
Amish youth typically participate in Rumspringa when they reach adolescence, a rite of passage that allows them to have a better understanding of the contemporary world. A small number of Amish teenagers are permitted to leave their family in order to participate in activities that are typically prohibited at home.
Normal Marriages
A common misconception about the Amish community is that they engage in planned weddings. This is incorrect. The majority of Amish marriages are made through the typical dating and wooing rituals that are common in the community. When it comes to selecting a spouse, there are no arranged weddings involving parents or any third parties. In order to be baptized into a certain Amish affiliation (typically the one where they grew up), young people need to find a spouse from within that group.
