Amish people do not play musical instruments because they believe that it is a form of self-expression that would lead to emotions of supremacy and pride in their community. Most Amish church songs are derived from the Ausbund, a High German songbook that contains no musical notation.

A Computer For The Amish
Contrary to popular belief, there was once a computer designed exclusively for Amish villages. The Deskmate word processor does not support Internet connectivity, video or music playing, or other multimedia functions. The computer is capable of performing simple word processing, spreadsheets, and accountancy tasks. Because some (but not all) Amish use technology that can only be used for industrial purposes, the Deskmate would not be in violation of any long-standing Amish traditions.
