The Wellingtons did in fact sing the first version of the theme song. However, even after the show didn’t use their song, the band got to appear on Gilligan’s Island. They played the Mosquitoes, which yes, were supposed to be a parody of The Beatles.

Origin Of Ginger’s Name
Now, for Bob Denver’s character, we explained they randomly selected the name Gilligan. However, a little more care came when choosing Ginger for Tina Louise. Apparently, they were inspired by two great legends of Hollywood’s Golden Era. That is, Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers. In fact, the show often referenced Cary Grant.
