After the show first aired, people wrote frantic letters to the Coast Guard. Somehow, they believed these castaways needed to be rescued and failed to see this was a sitcom. When Schwartz was interviewed with the Archive of American Television he claimed those viewers were delusion. Schwartz asked, “Now who did they think was laughing at what was happening to these people? Where did they think the music came from, and the commercials?”

Of course, the lagoon is one of the key parts of Gilligan’s Island. However, the lagoon may have looked strangely familiar to many viewers as they enjoyed reruns of the show and films. Actually, that’s because the same lagoon was used for the monster film, The Creature From the Black Lagoon.
