Maybe this small reference slipped right past you. In “You have been disconnected” Mr. Howell passes his wife’s diamond jewelry to Gilligan. These necklaces are used to cut encased wires. Upon handing over these jewels he said to Gilligan, “You’ll have more carrots than Bugs Bunny.” The reason Backus said this was because he voiced in the Looney Tunes episode “A-Lad-In His Lamp.” Turns out, Backus voiced Smokey the Genie, so that’s what inspired the Bugs Bunny reference.

Archie Bunker As The Skipper?
Everyone associates actor Carroll O’Connor with his famous character of Archie Bunker, All in the Family‘s bigot. Apparently, O’Connor auditioned for the role of the Skipper. Though, Schwartz couldn’t see him as the Skipper. Thus, producer/creator Schwartz turned him down.
