The Antikythera Mechanism
While enjoying an exciting diving trip off the Greek Island of Antikythera in 1900, a Greek diver found what would be later named the “Antikythera mechanism”. After much research and exploration, experts say that the ancient technological piece was created around 87 BC. Its capabilities included calculating the sun’s and moon’s movements as well as keeping track of eclipses.

After a Polish man bought the book at a flea market in 1912, he was determined to find out what the strange and mysterious drawing, diagrams and secret language meant, but he had no luck. When cryptographers attempted their skills, it didn’t turn up any positive results. Although it might not be real, many believe that a 15th Century prankster created it.
