Accidents Happen
Accidentally, Nikki Hamblin of New Zealand ran into fellow runner, Abbey D’Agostino of America during the 5,000 meter race. This incident in Rio ended up sending both women to the ground when Nikki tripped. Obviously, this took them out of the race and ruined any chance of placing. However, D’Agostino did not react how fans may have guessed.

Instead of becoming angry and nasty, their friendly and sweet reaction made international headlines. D’Agostino and Hamblin not only helped each other up, but hugged. Also, D’Agostino discovered she had torn her anterior cruciate knee ligament. Miraculously, both women finished the race and got places in the final. However, D’Agostino couldn’t compete because of her torn ligament. She was wheeled away, but fans were warmed by their sportsmanship.
