Mickey Rourke made his comedic cinematic debut in the 1982 picture Diner. In 1986’s 912Weeks and 1987’s Angel Core, his acting ability and ability to handle contentious subject matter in his roles pushed him to stardom, albeit not totally breaking new ground. These flicks reinforced his image as a sex symbol alongside co-stars Kim Basinger and Lisa Bonet, despite being very tame by today’s standards. In 1991, though, Rourke decided he had had enough of acting and turned to boxing. When he was younger, he trained as a combatant. Three years were the entirety of his boxing career.

In the 1990s, when Rourke returned to acting following a boxing career, he scored a few tiny roles. His extraordinary talent inspired him to labor ceaselessly, typically portraying misfits and misguided tough guys despite having a severely scarred face from his time on the combat scene. Rourke did not make another notable supporting role until Sin City in 2005. In 2009, he was nominated for a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Oscar for his performance in The Wrestler. As a result of numerous cosmetic procedures throughout the years, he is an attractive older man.
