The Vietnam War was going on when the festival unfolded. The ‘flower kid’ campaign emerged to protest the fighting. A number of people entered Woodstock to demonstrate unity and harmony. They became opposed to the horrific incidents that were going on. The people in this picture are doing henna tattoos, common body art in Woodstock. Originally, the flower kid was associated with the hippie. “Flower children” wear and gave flowers or floral items. These objects, according to them, symbolize unity, compassion, and fundamental belonging.

And when they were at the festival, people really needed to hear what was going on for the rest of the country, and that was the way they did it! A lot of paper has been included, as you can tell. Currently, sweeping up after the incident was a big challenge, and the support of the bulldozers was required for the work.
