Trajan
Trajan was a Roman emperor who reigned from 98 to 117 after being born in September of 53. He was promoted to the status of Optimus Princeps by the Roman Senate. This was in reference to “the most effective ruler”! They considered him to be one of the world’s greatest soldier-emperors. He was the commander of the most significant military expansion in Roman history. Following his death, the empire was allowed to expand to its current size.
What Trajan Really Looked Like
The reconstructionists utilized this marble bust to rebuild Trajan’s bust. Archaeologists believe that it was built in the year 113 AD. They decided that the artist had seen Trajan in person because of the great quality of the picture. The statue had been broken into more than 356 pieces when they discovered it, the result of an earthquake that had caused it to collapse.
