The discovery of the staircase was not the only one made by archaeologists and workers in Silwan. Once they realized the gravity of the situation, they discovered that the steps led to a significant spiritual site. It may be the most important in Silwan. It had been buried for a long period beneath the ground.

The Second Temple
There used to be two temples down there. The first one was constructed by King David’s son. The First Temple was destroyed in 586 B.C. The Second Temple, on the other hand, was left standing until the year A.D. 70. A specific foe had gained possession of both Jerusalem and Silwan at the time.
