Ingrid Bergman
Ingrid Bergman is a Swedish actress who rose to fame after starring alongside Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca. In the mid-’30s, however, she made her name by appearing in German and Swedish films. Her international appeal was so great, according to a biographer, that she was “arguably the most international star in the history of entertainment.” A director called Anatole Litvak said, “Through all her troubles she held to the conviction that she had been true to herself and it made her quite a person.” After battling breast cancer, the great actress died in 1982.
Sophie Marceau
This French star rose to prominence after starring in the 1980 film La Boum. Sophie Marceau went on to star in a variety of European films over the next 15 years before landing her big Hollywood break with Braveheart. In The World Is Not Enough, she played a Bond girl. Her name appears frequently on lists like this one, yet she appears to be unaware of her own attractiveness. She even said, “I’ve never really been beautiful. I’m photogenic…” At any rate, it was clear that she was modest.
