Other Parts Of The World
The lilac has since made its way to different parts of the world. More species have been cultivated for this reason. From the late 19th to early 20th centuries, a French horticulturist called Victor Lemoine bred over 153 new hybrids. One of them would be the “French lilac,” which widened the lilac’s color spectrum. A couple of his cultivars remain a hit among landscapers even in this day and age.
Other Hybrid Variants
Together with Lemoine’s hybrid alternatives, the common lilac sat together with Asian varieties in European and American gardens by the end of the 19th century. The others came from China, Japan, and Korea. Those lilacs are known for their shorter statures. A particular species called “Miss Kim” does not even grow any taller than five feet. It does not need a cold winter to flower either.
