In New Hampshire
Historians think that lilacs first arrived in the United States in the middle of the 1700s. You see, they first planted them in New Hampshire. That area is now a state park, but it used to be the Governor Wentworth Estate. Since then, the lilac has become known as the official flower of the state. This allegedly reflects how hard the population of New Hampshire is.
A Presidential Plant
In the United States, lilacs are also known as a presidential plant. After all, both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson have planted the plant in the late 1700s. The latter, who served as the third president of the country, even talked about his experience with the aromatic plant in his gardening journal!
