Russian Inventor, Igor Sikorsky was just one step behind Etienne Oehmichen. He may not have been the first person to fly the helicopter, though Sikorsky did end up beating the Frenchman’s 1-kilometer flight in other ways. He built a flying machine that can travel for a longer distance over a longer period of time. His helicopter served as the predecessor of the helicopters that we have today.
