Flying Helicopters
Russian Inventor, Igor Sikorsky was just one step behind Etienne Oehmichen. He may not have been the first person to fly the helicopter, though Sikorsky did end up beating the Frenchman’s 1-kilometer flight in other ways. He built a flying machine that can travel for a longer distance over a longer period of time. His helicopter served as the predecessor of the helicopters that we have today.

Aside from winter sports, many people also believe that Russia is synonymous with chess. During the 20th century, chess became one of the most popular sports in Russia and this remains true to today. Currently, more than half of the top 20 chess players in the world come from Russia. Here is a fun fact you probably didn’t know: in 1584, Czar Ivan IV died while playing chess.
