Nicknames
All of Freddie’s close friends had female nicknames – all besides for one. Freddie was ‘Melina’, Brian May was ‘Maggie’, Roger Taylor was ‘Liz’, Elton John was ‘Sharon’, and Rod Stewart was ‘Phyllis’. Mary Austin, however, was ‘Steve’.
One Take
Towards the end of Freddie’s life, Brian May had written “The Show Must Go On” and all that was left was to record the vocals. Because Freddie was so ill at the time, the band wasn’t sure he’d be able to record the song, but Freddie pushed through and got the vocals down in just one take.
