Since the boy’s grandmother would hurt him if she left her son at the orphanage, Dorothy genuinely thought that the boy would be better off living at an institution than under the same roof as his grandma. Before her death, Dorothy lived with her mother for a few more years. After that, Dorothy went back to the orphanage with the intention of taking her son with her.
