Billie Jean King was in the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” where she was pitted against tennis legend Bobby Riggs. Her winning propelled her to fame and earned her quite a bit of cash. King became the first-ever female athlete to publicly admit publicly that she was gay. She divorced her then-husband Larry King just 6 years later. King is a member of the esteemed International Tennis Hall of Fame.
