There is a high possibility that H&M could no longer be an essential in every mall after 2020. Over the year, they are planning to close as many as 160 stores in an attempt to optimize business. The decision was made due to the harsh competition they face within the US. Despite this, H&M are seeing a steady growth within the overseas market. With this being taken into account, the company plans to open up 355 new stores in 2020. Even if these rumors are true, these new stores will be located outside the United States and Europe.

In the summer of last year, Starbucks declared that as many as 150 underperforming stores would permanently close in 2020. That is a whopping three times the amount than the average number of closures within a financial year. However, the company said that closures will more than likely take place within the bigger cities, where there is a large amount of competition amongst different divisions of Starbucks.
