Dermontti Dawson
When he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2010, this former NFL center and long snapper listed $69 million in debts on his credit report. Following a string of real estate projects and thousands of dollars in mortgage payments on his Nicholasville, Kentucky home and 41-foot motor home, Dermontti Dawson, a former Pittsburgh Steelers player, owed millions to Fifth Third Bank in Lexington, due to a string of financial obligations. His possessions at the time included a real (and a fake) Rolex, weight machines, and $22,000 in firearms, while his son’s college tuition was apparently costing him $3,584 per month, according to reports. When he retired in 2001, Dawson was widely regarded as the highest-paid offensive lineman in Steelers history, earning $4.2 million a year in salary.
William Perry
During his 10-year NFL career, the jovial William “The Refrigerator” Perry, with his endearing grin, amassed millions of dollars in earnings and set a record as the world’s largest running back to score a touchdown, among other achievements. The former Chicago Bears lineman is currently residing in a retirement facility due to his depleted financial resources and deteriorating health. It was alleged in 2016 that Perry’s big salary was “far gone,” and that he had even sold his Super Bowl ring from the previous year for $200,000, according to Sports Illustrated. The man has Guillain–Barré syndrome (a rare autoimmune condition that causes nerve damage), is an alcoholic and diabetic, and he also has diabetes. A former football player’s brother, Michael Dean Perry, claims that his brother survives on social security and disability payments from the National Football League.
