Lehigh Acres, Florida
We already discussed Fort Myers’ impressive growth in the past decade. However, its neighbor, Lehigh Acres, has also seen a boom. In 2000, it was still considered a small town and had only about 33,000 residents. Now, there are about 120,000 living in the city, and that number continues to grow. This Gulf Coast town was ranked third in Stacker’s recent study on fastest-growing cities in the U.S. in the past decade. It is estimated that the population of Lehigh Acres had grown by over 53% in that period alone. The median household income in the city is less than $47,000, which makes it one of the affordable places on this list.
North Charleston, South Carolina
North Charleston is another South Carolina city that is booming these days. Since it is a major Boeing manufacturing center, its economic growth has contributed to the explosion of its population in recent years. Both WalletHub and Stacker included North Charleston in the top 25 fastest-growing American cities for the past decade since about 25% more residents were added in that time. More than 110,000 people now live in this city, so it is not considered a midsize city. In 2010, its population was at about 96,000.
