Although the toothy plan worked for a while, the cubs were still far from the landing of the boat. They needed help from the fishermen who later said that they could not simply “look the other way.” They knew that the cubs could drown and they wanted to help. However, they realized that they were also at risk.

Trust Is Key
Trust between the fishermen and bear cubs was an important factor in order to make the rescue mission a success. At one point, the cubs were out of reach of the boat. However, if the fishermen got closer, there was a chance of slipping. Worse, they might even become the bear’s last supper!
