Twin Towers During Their Construction
The Twin Towers first broke ground in August of 1966, and cost the Port Authority a total of $900 million. The North Tower started accepting business in 1970 and the South Tower in 1972, and by 1979 both buildings were sold out. There was a lot of controversy in Manhattan when they tore down other buildings to build the Twin Towers, but today, the buildings are known to be a historical icon.
The Modern Bicycle
In 1946, Benjamin Bowden created the prototype of the ‘Bowden Spacelander’, AKA an early modern bicycle. Even though the prototype was ready in 1946, it didn’t start getting produced until 1960, and only 522 ended up being made. You could buy one of these bad boys for $89.50 – in 1960 currency. Today, this vintage bike in perfect condition would burn a $15,000 hole in your pocket.
