Patriotic viewers were appalled at the thought of a flag splattered with barbecue food. The network received a lot of complaints and issued an apology as soon as it could. HGTV reassured the viewers that they employed people who were proud to be Americans. The statement read, “This was a regrettable use of our flag, and it never should have happened.”
