Lightning

As Lightning, she earned a reputation as one of the toughest and most determined Gladiators in the United Kingdom. Known as the Queen of Hang Tough, she went undefeated in the UK Arena and was only beaten once, during Australia’s inaugural Ashes series. That defeat came in the opening heat of the first Ashes, when Australia’s Kerry Warman slid past Lightning and defeated her. Betts gave birth to a son named Lexus three weeks before the 1999 Gladiators series began.

Nightshade is also a Tae Kwon-Do First Dan Black Belt. Additionally, she volunteers with the Duke of Edinburgh Award and serves as the Honorary President of the Women’s Sports Federation. Additionally, Nightshade was awarded an MBE for her sporting achievements. Renowned as one of the toughest female Gladiators of all time, her determination shone through in every performance. However, she excelled in Duel, Pole-Axe, and Suspension Bridge. Unfortunately, she contracted a highly contagious virus while filming the Ashes series in Australia. With the support of her husband Robin and fellow Gladiators, she continued in the show until 1996, when she realized she couldn’t give the show her all and that it was time to retire.
