38. Marshall University: Joan C. Edwards Stadium
Huntington, West Virginia
Due to the stadium’s overall condition and the fans who call it home, Edwards Stadium has a worthy spot on this list. They’re not known for being friendly to visiting supporters. Edwards is a nearly 30-year-old old cookie-cutter stadium that holds about 39,000 people. It has mediocre equipment and is really nothing special. But it is one of only two female-named NCAA Division I football stadiums. Joan Edwards and her husband were Marshall’s major benefactors; the playing surface of the stadium honors James F. Edwards.
37. Kent State University: Dix Stadium
Kent, Ohio
Kent State Golden Flashes home, Dix Stadium, takes the conservationist slogan “reduce, reuse, recycle.” It was built in the late 1960s, incorporating parts of the old Memorial Stadium, including thousands of seats. Dix features a one-sided elevated grandstand with high-school-esque metal bleachers that replaced wooden bleachers on the east and north sides in the 2000s. This stadium isn’t unique, nor does Kent State deliver a football brand that encourages large crowds.
